The Backcountry Horsemen and the Foothills Rails-To-Trails Coalition joined forces the winter of 2002-2003 and "identified and located" a four mile extension to the Foothills Trail beyond Carbonado to Fairfax. This is a remarkably beautiful trail along the Carbon River. It will be a critical section of the ultimate trail from Mount Rainier to Commencement Bay.
