The Foothills Rails to Trails Coalition is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is to assist Pierce County communities in the creation, maintenance and usage of a connected system of non-motorized trails for healthier people from Mt. Rainier to Puget Sound.

  Carbonado Trailhead

Carbonado trail

The trail currently ends at the Carbonado Cemetery. A monument honors those killed in mine explosions from 1899 to 1930. Many are also honored on headstones in the cemetery.

The unpaved trail extends 3 miles north to the next trailhead at Wilkeson. Construction of this section is scheduled for 2006. The City of Carbonado is opposed to extending the trail within it's city limits. The trailhead location, and the detour around Carbonado to extend the trail to the Carbon River and Mount Rainier, is currently uncertain.
