The South Prairie trailhead was completed in 2002 and has a larged paved parking area and a restroom.

The trail currently ends east of the trailhead at a park on South Prairie Creek. Construction of the trail east and north to Buckley was scheduled for 2004 but, as of early 2005, has not begun,. Construction of the trail south to Wilkeson and Carbonado was scheduled for 2006.

Follow the trail ten miles south-west to McMillin through Crocker and Orting.
